에버랜드할로윈
Spelling vs. sound
Usually written with a space: 에버랜드 할로윈. The official romanization is Ebeoraendeu Hallowin; Everland is the park's own English name. For the holiday, the dictionary spelling is 핼러윈, but signs and events often write 할로윈.
Say it e-beo-raen-deu hal-lo-win. ㅔ is the “e” in “bed”, the ㅓ in 버 is an open “uh”, and 랜 ends in a plain n. 드 ends in the short vowel ㅡ, so it is not much more than a “d”. In 할로 the two ㄹ meet and sound like one long l, and 윈 sounds like “win”, with a silent ㅇ in front.
Everland is a large theme park in Yongin, south of Seoul, known for its autumn Halloween festival. 할로윈 is a loanword that follows the English sound: the “-ween” at the end becomes 윈 (ㅇ + ㅟ + ㄴ).
