Spelling vs. sound
The official romanization is Karina, and here the English spelling and the Korean sounds match one for one: ㅋ+ㅏ = 카 (ka), ㄹ+ㅣ = 리 (ri) and ㄴ+ㅏ = 나 (na).
Say it ka-ri-na, three even beats with no heavy stress. ㅋ is a k with a little puff of air, and ㄹ between two vowels is a quick, light tap of the tongue, closer to the middle of “butter” than to an English r.
ㅋ is the breathy partner of ㄱ: 가 is a soft g/k, while 카 pushes out more air. Korean has a few of these pairs, like ㄷ/ㅌ and ㅂ/ㅍ.
